Air Force to Travel to New Mexico, Host UNLV

The Falcons will travel to New Mexico on Tuesday, before hosting UNLV on Saturday.
Competition for the Air Force volleyball team begins early this week, as the Falcons travel to Albuquerque for a midweek road contest against New Mexico on Tuesday, Oct. 4. In the first of two split weeks in the conference schedule, Air Force will return to the Academy on Saturday, Oct. 8 for a quick homestand with UNLV.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
New Mexico is 10-4 on the year and 1-3 in the Mountain West after dropping a pair of home contests to Wyoming (2-3) and Colorado State (1-3) last week, while UNLV, who will face New Mexico prior to traveling to the Academy, improved to 12-3 overall and 3-1 in conference with home wins over Fresno State (3-0) and San Diego State (3-1). New Mexico leads the league in digs (16.12 dps) during conference matches, while UNLV holds the top spot in kills (13.77 kps). Individually, the Lobos' Alena Moldan averages a league-leading 4.65 digs per set, while Avital Jaloba and Kaitlynn Biassou are ranked second in blocks (1.29) and kills (4.47), respectively. The Rebels also have three players ranked among the top five of the conference standings, as Jhenna Gabriel is ranked second in assists (10.77), Isabel Martin is ranked fourth in kills (3.69) and Jordan Freeman is ranked fifth in blocks (1.15).

Air Force is 6-42 all-time against New Mexico, while holding a 5-44 lifetime mark against UNLV. The Falcons last defeated the Lobos in Albuquerque during a 3-0 sweep at The Pit in 2019, while their last victory in Johnson Gym occurred in 2003. Four of the Falcons' five wins over the Rebels have come within the home confines of Cadet East Gym.

Through September, Joi Harvey was ranked among the top 15 in NCAA Division I with a 1.43 blocks-per-set average (15th). Her 15 solo blocks are tied for second in the nation, while her 83 total blocks are ranked third and her 64 assisted stops are tied for sixth.
AROUND THE CONFERENCE
Air Force is currently ranked second in the conference in blocks-per-set (2.44), while also holding top-five rankings in service aces (1.77, third) and opponent hitting (.202, fifth). Individually, Joi Harvey leads the league in blocking (1.38) and is ranked fourth in hitting (.382), while Caroline Reinkensmeyer and BrookeLyn Messenger are tied for 10th in aces with matching 0.36 per-set averages.
WHAT'S ON DECK
After its quick homestand on Saturday, Air Force will head back out on the road next week for conference contests at Nevada (Thursday, Oct. 13) and San Jose State (Saturday, Oct. 15).
