Air Force will face Army and Navy at The Ford Center in Frisco, Texas, on Feb. 12.
After a three-week hiatus from competition, the Air Force men's gymnastics team returns to action this Saturday (Feb. 12), when it travels to Frisco, Texas, to face Army West Point and Navy at the annual All-Academy Championships.
MEET INFORMATION
The annual All-Academy Championships with Air Force, Army West Point, and Navy will take place in Gym 6 at The Ford Center at The Star – home of the Dallas Cowboys – as a part of the WOGA Classic and Valeri Liukin Invitational in Frisco, Texas. Warm-ups will begin at 5:00 p.m., with competition scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start (all times central).
HOMECOMING WEEK
The Falcons have four Texans on their roster – Charlie Miles (Houston/Thornton's Gymnastics Center), Erich Upton (Richmond/Iron Cross Gymnastics), Bryan Woffinden (League City/Thornton's Gymnastics Center) and Oliver Zavel (Austin/Crenshaw's Athletics), while Garrett Braunton lived in the Lone Star State while training at Cypress Academy of Gymnastics in Houston.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Navy is currently ranked seventh in the nationally standings with an average of 390.788, while Army West Point is ranked 10th with a 377.823 average. The Midshipmen hold an event-high No. 4 ranking on the still rings (66.613), as Navy's Josh Williams (fifth, 14.010) and Alexander Brown (10th, 13.800) are both ranked in the nation's Top 10 on that event. Army West Point and Navy, who have already competed against each other twice this season, are coming off their Star Meet on Feb. 5, where the Midshipmen claimed a 397.250-379.550 victory over the Black Knights in Annapolis.
AIR FORCE IN THE RANKINGS
With just two meets under their belt – including one without a full lineup on several events, Air Force is currently ranked 13th with a 344.450 average. The Falcons are ranked among the Top 10 on the pommel horse (10th, 59.775) and parallel bars (10th, 61.950), while Patrick Hoopes is ranked eighth on the pommel horse (13.500) in the individual standings.
WE'LL BE SEEING YOU
Air Force will host both Army and Navy at the Academy later in the season. The Falcons will face the Black Knights in a triangular meet with Nebraska on March 12, while hosting Navy, Illinois and the Rocky Mountain Pride in a quad meet the following week (March 19).
LAST TIME OUT
Air Force has not competed since Jan. 22, when it suffered a 401.500-365.650 setback to top-ranked Oklahoma in Norman. Garrett Braunton led the Falcons with a fourth-place finish on the high bar during the meet, as Air Force fielded a full five-man lineup on every event for the first time this season.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force returns to action next Sunday (Feb. 20), when it travels to Berkeley for a MPSF dual with California.
