No. 7 Air Force travels to No. 3 TCU for dual and qualifier

This Week: Air Force travels to Fort Worth, Texas, for a dual against No. 3 TCU, Thursday, Feb. 17, at 8 am. The Falcons will then compete in the NCAA Qualifier, Saturday, Feb. 19, at 8 am in Fort Worth. Live scoring will be available at MegaLink.
More on the Horned Frogs: TCU finished second in the Patriot Rifle Conference championships, Feb. 4-5, at the Academy. TCU scored a 4726 while Air Force was fourth at 4689. Last season, TCU defeated Air Force, 4707-4683, in a dual in Fort Worth. Air Force's last win over TCU came on Feb. 21,2016, a 4686-4685 victory. TCU was No. 3 in the nation at the time while AF was No. 6. The Falcon win snapped a 12-match winning streak for the Horned Frogs.
Last Week: Air Force shot a season-best 4717 to defeat Nebraska (4678) in a dual meet on Monday, Feb. 7, at the Cadet Gym Rifle Range. Nebraska's Cecelia Ossi won the overall aggregate with a score of 1185. Air Force took the next four spots as freshman Scott Rockett shot an 1183, sophomore Morgan Kreb shot 1181, senior Devin Schwindt shot 1179 and freshman Lauren Hurley shot 1176. Rockett was the top Falcon in smallbore, and second overall, at 584. Kreb was third overall at 584, followed by Schwindt (582), Hurley (582), Peter Fiori (579), Ryan Habeck (577) and Dante Aletto (577). Air Force took the top three spots in air rifle as Rockett matched his career high with a 599. Kreb and Schwindt each shot 597. The Falcons also collected spots five through eight in air rifle as Fiori and Williams shot 596 and Hurley and Habeck each shot 594.
Top Shooters: Freshman Scott Rockett holds the team's top aggregate score of 1188 against UTEP, Jan. 29. Rockett has the team's top smallbore score of 589, also at the UTEP dual. Sophomore Peninah D'Souza has the team's best air rifle score with her perfect 600 at Nebraska, Nov. 20. D'Souza's 600 is one of just six in the nation this season. Rockett has shot a 599 four times while Morgan Kreb has also hit the 599 mark. Air Force owns two of the top five air rifle scores in the nation with a 2389 on Feb. 5 and a 2388 on Feb. 7.
NCAA Championships at USAFA: The Air Force Academy will host the 2022 NCAA Rifle Championships, March 11-12. The Championship will conclude on Saturday, March 12, in Clune Arena. The co-ed tournament features the top eight NCAA rifle teams, along with the next highest scoring individuals that are not part of the competing teams. Teams and individuals are invited to compete based on qualifications that conclude in February. The NCAA Rifle Championship was established in 1980 and this season marks the third time the Academy has hosted (1996 and 2006).Kentucky won the 2021 NCAA Championship, hosted by Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, while Air Force finished eighth.
