U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Freshmen Lauren Hurley and Scott Rockett set school records in a dual match against TCU, Thursday, Feb. 17, in Fort Worth, Texas. Hurley tied the school record with a perfect 600, just the seventh in the nation this season. Rockett set a new school record with a 593 in smallbore.
Air Force, ranked seventh in the nation, set new team records in aggregate score, smallbore (2350), air rifle (2386) in a 4736-4720 win over No. 3 TCU. The win over TCU was Air Force's first dual match win over the Horned Frogs since 2016.
"It was an awesome day," head coach Launi Meili said. "Every team member on the trip was a counter in one or two events, so it was a total team effort. Scott's 593 and Lauren's 600 were definitely highlights. Those, and the rest of the scores, propelled us to team records in both smallbore and air rifle. We train tomorrow to work on a few things and gather strength for the qualifier on Saturday. This score helps our three-score average and moves us back into sixth place nationally as we set our sights even higher."
Rockett won the aggregate competition with a career-best 1189. Senior Peter Fiori was third overall with a season-best 1182. Morgan Kreb was fourth (1180), followed by Peninah D'Souza (1179) and Hurley (career best 1178).
In smallbore, Rockett's 593 won the event. Kreb was third overall with a career-best 588. Fiori was fifth overall (587), followed by Devin Schwindt (582), D'Souza (581), Jordan Williams (579), Hurley (578) and Ryan Habeck (577).
Hurley's 600 won the air rifle while D'Souza was second at 598 and Rockett was fourth at 596. Fiori was seventh overall at 595, followed by Kreb (592), Williams (592), Habeck (586) and Schwindt (578).
Air Force will compete in an NCAA Qualifer at TCU, Saturday, Feb. 19, in Fort Worth, Texas.
