Jaret Prete, Travon Stevens-Long Claim MW Honors

Prete (Men's Field) and Stevens-Long (Men's Freshman) nabbed their first MW honors.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Air Force track and field team captured a pair of Mountain West awards this afternoon (Feb. 15), as Jaret Prete was named the MW Men's Field Athlete of the Week and Travon Stevens-Long was selected as the MW Men's Freshman of the Week. It is the first career honor for both Falcons and marked the squad's fifth multi-award week of the indoor season.
Prete, a junior from Amherst, Ohio, became the first Air Force thrower in five years to surpass 60 feet in the weight throw, as he unleashed a career-best toss of 62'3¼" at the Don Kirby Invitational on Feb. 11. With that throw, which came on his second attempt, Prete vaulted into fifth on the Academy's all-time standings. Finishing seventh out of 35 throwers, Prete is currently ranked second in the conference.
Stevens-Long also had a strong performance at the Don Kirby Invitational, as he posted the second-best long jump distance in the conference this season following a career-best leap of 23'11½". With that distance, which came on his first attempt of the finals, the Brooklyn, N.Y., native debuted in 10th on the Academy's all-time list and finished seventh in the full 37-athlete event.
