Air Force Comes up Short at Colgate, 11-8

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Air Force dropped an 11-8 contest at Colgate, Saturday afternoon at Andy Kerr Stadium. The Falcons drop to 0-3 on the season as Colgate notched their first win (1-2).
The game was decided in the fourth quarter as Air Force was unable to convert a goal on 13 shots. Colgate, who trailed by a goal heading into the final 15 minutes, fired off four unanswered goals starting just under the seven-minute mark.
The Falcons were led in scoring by Brenden Crouse who scored five goals on the day, one goal shy of his career-best set last weekend. He took a game high 15 shots with nine coming on goal. Crouse has scored in every game this season for a total of 13 goals. Air Force facilitator Brandon Dodd tallied three assists on the day, two of which helped Crouse to the finish.
Freshmen Alexander Stepney and Wes Peene, and senior Chase Douglas notched a goal apiece in the second quarter. Air Force attack man Ethan Grandolfo was good for two assists on the day, extending to a 21-game point streak.
Jason Rose, who averages 16 saves per games so far this season, hit the number on the head with 16 saves to his credit. Sophomore defender Chris Bardak was exceptional on the defensive side, causing three turnovers and picking up a team-high five ground balls.
The Falcons struggled at the center X, winning just five face offs in 23 attempts. Dylan Frankhouser took the lion's share of the task, winning 4-of-13 attempts.
The Raiders were led by Rory Connor's three goals and Brian Minicus' two goals and six assists. Both squads took 27 shots on the game.
Next up, Air Force opens Falcon Stadium for the first time in 2022, hosting a pair of games on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 26-27). The Falcons take on Canisius in the home opener at noon, and plays host to Jacksonville on Sunday at 1 p.m.
