FRESNO, Calif.- The Falcons conference-leading defense was uncharacteristically softened by the Bulldogs on Saturday, as Fresno State finished the day nearly 60% from the field in Air Force's 75-67 loss.
In the 4th quarter however, Riley Snyder made Air Force history when she surpassed Kaelin Immel as the program's most prolific Division I scorer. Her three-pointer with 5:20 remaining in regulation gave her a grand total of 1,534 points, surpassing Immel's school record of 1,531 points.
Snyder finished the day with 15 points to lead Air Force, as her 1,538 career points is 4th all-time in program history.
Cierra Winters and Kamri Heath each finished with 11 points, with Heath knocking down five of her six field goal tries. Lauren McDonald was 2-7 from long range, as she eventually finished with 10 points of her own. After limited minutes as a freshman to begin the season, McDonald is averaging 9.7 PPG over her last 12 games.
Jo Huntimer's five assists were a shared game-high with Fresno State's Haley Cavinder. Huntimer now has 103 assists in her debut season, fourth-most among freshman players since 1996.
In many ways, Saturday was very much played towards Air Force's winning formula. The Falcons forced 19 turnovers, outscoring Fresno State 22-2 in points off of turnovers. However, Fresno State ended the day shooting 59.5%, including 9-16 from three-point range (56.3%). Air Force entered the day allowing just 27.3% of opposing three-pointers to fall.
In spite of Air Force leading into the 4th quarter, the Bulldogs simply couldn't miss, connecting on 16 of 21 shots in the second-half. The Bulldogs closed the game shooting 82% in the final quarter. The Falcons end the day 4th overall in the Mountain West Conference with one regular season game remaining.
Next, Air Force returns home to conclude the 2022 regular season, hosting San Diego State on Wednesday, March 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm MT.
