Air Force Downs Canisius in OT, 9-8

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force notched its first win of the 2022 campaign with a 9-8 overtime victory over Canisius, Monday morning at Falcon Stadium. The game, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, was moved to Monday due to a flight delay. The Falcons and Griffs are now both 1-4 on the season.
Air Force had three players split the lion's share of scoring as Brenden Crouse, Aiden Tolen and Wes Peene notched two apiece. Crouse, who leads the team with 17 goals this season, has scored in nine straight games dating back to April 17 of last season. Other scorers included Teddy Accardi, Dante Orlando, and Joey Matheson.
The Falcons, who closed the first quarter trailing by one, 4-3, had their best quarter in the second, outscoring the Griffs, 4-1, to hold the lead heading into the halftime locker room, 7-5. After a 2-1 third quarter in favor of Canisius, the Falcons went scoreless in the fourth. Despite controlling the offensive possessions, the Griffs were the only team to score in the final quarter.
Just over two minutes into overtime, Tolen battled from behind the cage and shot a tough angle from just under 10 yards out. It was his fourth goal of the season.
Air Force out shot Canisius, 50-36, with 23 of those shots coming on goal. Crouse and Tolen led the Falcons in shooting with 10 and eight shots, respectively.
The Falcons won their first face off battle of the season as, winning 12-of-18 attempts. Freshman Jake Knapp went 4-7 and senior team captain Brian Michael won 8-11. Jason Rose made nine saves in cage for his first win of the season.
Next up, Air Force closes out a three-game home stint against Marist on Saturday, March 5. Action is slated for high noon at Falcon Stadium. The last time the teams met was in 2019 at USAFA where the Falcons doubled-up the Red Foxes, 12-6.
