
Air Force Falls To New Mexico, 91-77

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (10-11, 3-7 MW) fell to New Mexico (9-14, 2-8 MW), 91-77, in Mountain West action Saturday night at Clune Arena. The Falcons had four players in double figures, led by 20 points from freshman Jake Heidbreder.
New Mexico shot 59 percent from the field for the game, with guards Jalen House and Jamal Mashburn Jr. combining for 62 points. House scored a game high 42 points on 15 of 22 shooting from the field and Mashburn Jr. added 20 points.
New Mexico came out strong right out the gates, opening with a 17-2 burst to take a commanding lead. The Falcons fought their way back into the game, getting it to within eight points. New Mexico closed the half with another run to lead 43-30 at the break.
The Falcons opened the second half on an 18-8 run to get to within three points at 51-48 with 13:51 to play. New Mexico would pull away again, however, highlighted by a 9-0 run.
Air Force had two players reach career-high's in scoring. Heidbreder's 20 points was the most by an Air Force freshman so far this season. He went 7 of 11 from the field and 3 of 4 from three. Junior guard Camden Vander Zwaag scored a career-high 14 points on 4 of 6 shooting.
Also in double figures were senior guard AJ Walker and sophomore guard Joseph Octave. Walker scored 18 points on 6 of 12 shooting, including two three's and four free throws. Octave added 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting.
Junior forward Nikc Jackson came close to a triple double with nine points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in 30 minutes off the bench.
Air Force had a season high for points. The Falcons also went 18 for 24 from the free throw line, good for a 75 percent clip. The makes, attempts and percentage were all season-high's.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, Feb. 8, at UNLV. The game tips at 7 pm PT and will be broacast on the Mountain West Network.
