Falcons can't contain Sooners in 10-4 loss

NORMAN, Okla.- A tie-game through five innings, a late Oklahoma charge pushed the Sooners over the Falcons in today's 10-4 loss.

From the leadoff spot, Blake Covin went 2-5 with a RBI triple in the 4th. Cayden Zimmerman returned to the Falcons lineup after having not appeared in a game since the series finale with Navy on February 26, and did so in style. The senior was 1-4 with two RBI, as his two-run home run in 8th was his first of the season.

It was a tough afternoon for Air Force pitching, as the five Falcons to appear combined for 10 walks and a hit-by-pitch.

The Falcons initially took a 1-0 lead going in the top of the 1st inning, with Jake Greiving driving in a run after an error in right field. The Sooners immediately answered in bottom half of the inning, manufacturing a run to even the score.

Covin's two-out triple in the 4th put the Falcons back on top 2-1, though the lead was short-lived with Oklahoma going on to score the next six runs.

The Sooners tied the game in the 5th with a RBI single before a safety squeeze in the 6th gave the home team a 3-2 lead.

Air Force saw Oklahoma manage a four-run 7th, an inning that included the Falcons allowing three hits, two walks, two wild pitches, two Sooners stolen bases and an error.

Cayden Zimmerman's two-run homer in the 8th cut the Sooners lead to 7-4, but Oklahoma answered right back with three more runs in their half of the inning.

Next, Air Force will conclude its quick two-game series with Oklahoma on Wednesday, March 16. First-pitch is scheduled for 1 pm MT.
