Jaret Prete registered the fourth-best hammer distance in Air Force history during his victory.
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Air Force men's track and field team went a perfect two-for-two in event titles on Friday, March 25, as junior Jaret Prete and sophomore Brian Hubbard won the hammer throw and decathlon, respectively, during the second day of competition at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego.
Prete unleashed a career-best distance of 199'3" to easily win the hammer throw on Friday night. The junior, who bettered the field by more than six feet, also improved his personal distance in the event by that same margin to move into fourth on the Academy's all-time standings – becoming the first Falcon since 2016 to impact the program's top five in the hammer. Prete was not the only Air Force thrower to use a career-best outing to place within the top-half of the event standings, as classmate Jace Pittman recorded a toss of 172'5" – a personal improvement of 12 feet – to finish fourth in the nine-thrower event.
Hubbard kicked off the Falcons' winning ways on Friday, as he wrapped up two days of decathlon competition with a career-best 6204-point performance. Tallying personal-best marks in three of the final five events, Hubbard bettered the field by more than 400 points and improved his own total by more than 500 points to debut at No. 24 on the Falcons' all-time list. The sophomore posted career-best marks in the 110-meter hurdles (15.62, 776 points), pole vault (13'3½" – a two-foot personal improvement, 631 points) and 1500-meter run (4:57.11, 576 points), while rounding out his total with a 434-point performance in the javelin (129'4") and a 379-point distance in the discus throw (84'0").
The rest of the Falcons' spring break squad will converge on The Sports Deck at San Diego State tomorrow (March 26) for the final day of action at the Aztec Invitational. Action is slated to begin at 9:00 a.m. (PT).
