Air Force fencing finished in 16th place at the 2022 NCAA Fencing Championships, held March 24-27 at the Castellan Family Fencing Center on the Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Ind. Host Notre Dame claimed the team championship.
Senior Nestor Levin and sophomore Josie Ratzlaff both placed 13th in their respective weapons, finishing just one slot outside of earning All-American status. Junior Matthew Han finished 17th in men's epee. The trio combined for 32 bout victories.
Levin, who has qualified for the NCAA's all four years at Air Force, finished 13th in men's foil. He posted 11 bout victories.
Ratzlaff, making her second appearance at the NCAA's, finished 13th in women's epee. She had 11 bout victories.
Han, who qualified for the NCAA's for the third time, finished 17th in men's epee. He had 10 bout victories.
"It was great to participate with our three fencers at the Championships," head coach Omar Elgeziry said. "I'm sad to see Nestor and Jocelyn miss the All-American designation by one position, but they earned huge experience from that challenging event which will only make them stronger. Finishing 16th in the nation is a good result with having only three fencers in the tournament. I'm proud of our cadets for fighting hard and showing grit in every match. Go Falcons."
