It is the first career conference award for the Falcons' sophomore.
WOODLAND, Calif. – Highlighted by a winning all-around performance at the USAG Collegiate Nationals on March 25-26, Air Force sophomore Garrett Braunton was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's Gymnast of the Week this afternoon (March 29). It is the first MPSF award for the Olympia, Wash., native – and the first for an Academy gymnast since 2019.
Backed by career-best marks on the floor exercise (14.200 – No. 8 all-time at Air Force), pommel horse (13.600) and vault (14.450 – No. 7 all-time at Air Force), Braunton won the all-around with a personal-best score of 81.450 – the 10th-highest all-around score in program history. His victory in the all-around secured him a place at the U.S. Championships this summer and he capped the weekend with another USAG All-America nod after finishing third on the still rings in the individual event finals.
Braunton and his teammates return to MPSF action this weekend, when they travel to Stanford for the annual conference championships. The 10th-ranked Falcons will face top-ranked Stanford, third-ranked Oklahoma and ninth-ranked California at Burnham Pavilion on Saturday, April 2.
