Falcons Tie Program-Record With Fourth MW Win in 4-2 Win Over Boise State

Air Force women's tennis defeated Boise State (7-4, 3-3 MW) 4-2 in a neutral-site Mountain West contest Sunday morning at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club in Logan, Utah. The Falcons tied the program record for Mountain West wins in a season, improving to 15-5, 4-2 MW on the season.

Air Force opened down 1-0 after Boise State took the doubles with a pair of wins. The Falcons did win at No. 1 doubles as Vivian Glozman and Karina Chao defeated Discenza/Baptisa 6-1.

The Falcons rallied by going 4-1 in singles play for the win.

Karina Chao opend singles play with a win at No. 4 over Ana Conde Vendrell in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Boise State would go back up 2-1 with a win at No. 3 singles.

It was all Air Force after as the Falcons took the singles at No. 2, 1 and clinched at No. 5. Sydney Fitch won at No. 2 over Joana Baptista 6-4, 6-4. Glozman won at No. 1 over Pauline Ernstberger 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Hailey Stelse clinched at No. 5 over Nicole Discenza 6-1, 6-3.

"It was a tremendous team effort," head coach Kim Gidley said. "I am so proud of how resilient the team was and being able to bounce back from yesterday's match. Karina Chao took care of business winning 6-0, 6-0 for her 30th singles win for the season. Sydney Fitch won her match in straight sets with a second serve ace after yesterday's epic match. Vivian won her match in straight sets saving sets points for her 19th straight singles win. Then Hailey Stelse clinched the match for the team. Anytime you win four singles matches against a good team is awesome. This team is finding out how good they are."

Air Force returns to action Friday, April 15 against Fresno State in Albuquerque, NM.
