Falcons fall to Wolfpack in back-and-forth affair

RENO, Nev.- Air Force failed to maintain control of multiple leads before eventually losing to Nevada 14-12 to even the four-game series.

In spite of the loss, Sam Kulasingam provided a career-best effort at the plate. The sophomore was 4-5, including two home runs, a triple, and a double with six RBI. Kulasingam came up a single short of the cycle but extended his on-base streak to 19 games in the process.

Gabriel Garcia was 2-4 with a two-run home run and a double, driving in three runs. Garcia's hit-streak is now at 14 games. Braydon Altorfer was 3-4 with three singles and a RBI, while Trayden Tamiya was 2-4 with a pair of base-hits as well as a run driven in.

Starter Jake Sansing allowed six runs (four earned) to go with nine hits, four strikeouts and a walk. Aside from Duke Benge's 1.2 scoreless innings, it was a tough day for an Air Force bullpen that allowed eight runs and seven hits.

Garcia's home run in the 1st gave the Falcons an initial two-run lead, though a four-run Wolfpack 2nd gave the home side a 4-2 advantage.

Following Garcia's RBI double in the 3rd and a run-scoring error in the 4th, Kulasingam clubbed an opposite-field grand slam in the 4th, as Air Force was suddenly back on top 8-4.

Nevada scored twice in their half of the 4th, while Tamiya poked a sac fly in the 5th, shaping the score to 9-6. The Wolfpack countered with a four-run 5th to put Air Force down 10-9.

The Falcons proceeded to score the next three runs, as Altorfer brought in the tying run with a two-out infield single in the 6th before Kulasingam pulled his second home run of the game over the left field fence to give the Falcons a 12-10 lead.

However, Nevada's lineup scored twice in the 7th and 8th innings, with Air Force going down in order in the final inning.

Game Three between Air Force and Nevada is scheduled for 2:00 pm MT on Saturday, April 16.
