Falcon Lacrosse Comes up Short in ASUN Opener

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force dropped a 10-8 contest to Utah in the ASUN Conference opener, Saturday afternoon at Falcon Stadium. The Falcons equal out to 5-5 overall while the Utes improve to 5-3.
The Falcons were led by Utah native Brandon Dodd who scored three goals on eight shots for his sixth hat trick this season. Air Force senior Brenden Crouse added a pair of goals on 14 shots, marking his 13th straight game with a goal. Dodd and Crouse scooped up three ground balls each. Falcon junior Gavin Peene put up two goals for the second-straight game. Freshman teammate Kyle Griffith notched a goal for his 10th this season while putting up a career-high four-point performance with a career-best three assists. Aidan Tolen and Wes Peene tacked tallied an assist apiece to round out the AF offense.
The Falcons outshot Utah 46-35 and were nearly perfect in clearing the ball (15-16). A stale third quarter for Air Force allowed Utah to build a four-goal buffer heading into the final 15 minutes. The Falcons got traction in the fourth but was unable to track down the Utes by the final horn.
Sophomore face off man Braden Gaab had a career day, winning an impressive 11 of 14 attempts at the center X. He scooped up five ground balls in the effort. Senior co-team captain Quentin Carlile and Tommy Hellman caused two turnovers apiece, leading the Falcons in causing 11 turnovers on the game. Junior goalie Jason Rose made 11 saves against 21 shots on goal.
Utah displayed their scoring depth with nine different scorers. Koa Todd was the only Ute to put up multiple goals. Zion Dechesere was fantastic in goal, making 14 saves and fending off a ferocious AF attack on several occasions.
Next up, Air Force hits the road to take on Detroit Mercy, Saturday, April 9, at Seaholm High School. Action is slated for 11 a.m. ET. The Falcons are undefeated against the Titans in the six-game series
