COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The hot-hitting Falcons were held in check by the visiting Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts, as Air Force was unable to record a hit beyond the 4th inning, dropping Monday's contest 7-3.
Braydon Altorfer was the lone Falcon with multiple hits, finishing 2-4 with a double. Gabriel Garcia reached base in three of his four plate appearances, launching his 10th home run of the season in the 1st as part of a 1-2 afternoon. The senior also reached base after a walk and a hit by pitch.
Trayden Tamiya and Jay Thomason also managed base-hits, with Tamiya driving in a run in the 2nd after a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.
Sam Kulasingam closed the afternoon 0-4 with a 2nd inning sacrifice fly, snapping his 31-game on-base streak as well as his 19-game hitting streak.
Jake Sansing made his fourth start of the spring, allowing six runs (four earned) with six hits, two strikeouts and a walk. The bullpen combination of Nathan Price, Ryan Stohr, Chase Spencer, Stevan Fairburn Jr., and Duke Benge did not surrender an earned run in six innings of relief.
A back-and-forth start saw both dugouts tied 3-3 after two innings. In the top of 3rd, Oral Roberts managed three runs, though a pair of defensive miscues allowed saw only one of those runs earned. In the bottom half of the inning, Jake Greiving worked a one-out walk, and two batters later was tagged out at home plate trying to score following Altorfer's double.
Coincidentally, Altorfer's two-bagger was the last hit the Falcons could muster over the next five innings.
Next, Air Force travels to California for a three-game set against San Diego State, starting Friday, May 6.
