Ari Martinez Wraps Up Action at West Prelim

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Newly commissioned Air Force second lieutenant Ari Martinez matched the second-best high jump clearance of her career this afternoon (May 28), as she capped her time with the Falcons' track and field team at the NCAA West Preliminary in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Martinez, whose 5'9¼" clearance was tied for the second-best height of the day at John McDonnell Field, finished tied for 22nd in the full 48-jumper field. She cleared the opening bar of 5'5¼" on her first attempt, before making 5'7¼" on her second and bettering the 5'9¼" bar on her third. Her day ended on the next bar – a would-be career-best 5'11¼", which eliminated all but 12 of the remaining competitors.

The collegiate season comes to close next month in Eugene, Ore., as the top 12 finishers in each event from this weekend's two Preliminary sites converge on Hayward Field for the final four days of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Junior Sam Gilman (5000-meter run) and freshman Bryce Lentz (3000-meter steeplechase) will represent the Falcons in the men's competition on June 8 and June 10.
