
Baylon and Mascagni Sweep 2021-22 Men's Tennis Awards

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's tennis announced its team award winners for the 2021-22 season. Senior Robert Baylon was named the teams' Most Valuable Player, while junior Jonathan Mascagni took home two awards, in addition to being named the team captain for next season.
The Falcons had a standout 2021-22 season, posting a 15-9 overall record and 3-3 mark in Mountain West play, good for third place. The 15 wins were the most since 2005 and the three wins in MW play and third place finish were both program bests.
In a season of many high's, the Falcons defeated Army West Point 4-0 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, FL as part of College Match Day for its third-straight win over Army and first shutout win in history of the series. Air Force also defeated conference champion Nevada 4-1 and won on the road for the first time ever at UNLV. The Falcon also earned a national ranking of #69 on Feb. 23, 2022 for its first national ranking since the 2014 season.
Air Force had three all-conference performers in Baylon, senior Jordan Azuma and Mascagni. Baylon earned All-MW singles and doubles, Azuma All-MW doubles and Mascagni All-MW singles. It was the first time since 2005 that Air Force had two all-conference singles players.
Mascagni took home the Most Improved award and the Iron Bolt award for excellence in strength and conditioning. Mascagni had a breakout junior season, posting 41 combined wins (21 singles and 20 doubles). He had the clinching points in all three MW wins over Nevada, UNLV and Utah State. Mascagni was also named the team captain for the 2022-23 season.
Baylon capped a standout senior year by winning three awards. In addition to team MVP, Baylon earned the Coach Gugat "Attitude is Everything" and the Lightning Bolt Awards (most dual wins). Baylon led the Falcons with 44 combined wins (21 singles and 23 doubles) including 30 duals wins (13 singles and 17 doubles).
