Air Force will play 30 matches this season, including 15 at the Academy.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Highlighted by 15 matches in the home confines of Cadet East Gym, the Air Force volleyball team recently announced its schedule for the upcoming 2022 season. The Falcons, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Keith Barnett, will play a regular-season lineup that includes 30 contests, including four tournaments and 18 Mountain West matches.
Air Force, which will travel to Ogden, Utah, for an exhibition match at Weber State on Aug. 20, officially opens the season the following weekend (Aug. 26-27), when it hosts Texas A&M Commerce, Cal State Northridge and Drake at the Amy Svoboda Memorial Classic. That is the first of two home tournaments for the Falcons, who will welcome Denver, San Diego and San Francisco to the Academy for the annual Thin Air Challenge on Sept. 15-17.
The two home tournaments bookend a pair of cross-country road trips for Air Force during the non-conference season. Air Force will travel to Rhode Island over the Sept. 2-3 weekend to face Sienna and Brown in Providence and Rhode Island in Kingston, before heading to Riverside, Calif., for the UC Riverside/Cal Baptist Volleyball Classic on Sept. 9-10. In addition to facing the tournament co-hosts on their home courts, the Falcons will also face Idaho State on the Riverside campus that weekend.
The Falcons open the conference campaign during the last full weekend of September, when they travel to Utah State (Sept. 22) and Boise State (Sept. 24). Air Force, which will host both teams to close out the season on Nov. 17 (Boise State) and Nov. 19 (Utah State), will continue their home-and-home schedule with Colorado State (home: Sept. 29, road: Nov. 12), Wyoming (home: Oct. 1, road: Nov. 10), New Mexico (road: Oct. 4, home: Nov. 1), UNLV (home: Oct. 8, road: Nov. 3), Nevada (road: Oct. 13, home: Oct. 29) and San Jose State (road: Oct. 15, home: Oct. 27), while hosting Fresno State (Oct. 20) and traveling to San Diego State (Oct. 22) in their only meetings with both teams at the midway point of the season.
