
Waldman’s Singles Title Highlights Opening Weekend At MSU Denver Invite

DENVER - Air Force men's tennis opened the 2022 fall season by competing at the MSU Denver Invitational over the weekend. Senior Justin Waldman highlighted competition by winning the men's A-Draw singles competition.
Waldman went 4-0 over the two-day invite. He opened Saturday with a win over William Leschig of Colorado Mountain 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 and then won in the quarterfinals over Lucas Pastor of Colorado College 6-2, 6-1. On Sunday, Waldman won his semifinal match over Jeanloup Auzias of Metro State, rallying back 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (15-13). Walman then won the championship match over Juho Kantola of Metro State 6-1, 6-4.
A pair of freshmen also made their collegiate debuts for the Falcons. Phillip Deaton won his first-career match over Andrew Kaelin of Colorado College 6-1, 6-2 before falling in the quarterfinals. Jack Brown also made his Falcon debut falling in his opening match before rallying to win his consolation draw match over Nate Beerman of Colorado College 6-2, 6-2.
Sophomore Luke Wolf went 1-1 in singles play. After dropping his opening match, he also won his consolation draw over Aiden Little of Colorado College 6-0, 7-5.
In doubles play, Deaton and Waldman combined to finish second in the A-Draw. The duo went 2-1 with wins over Metro State and Colorado College, before falling to Auzias/McDermott of Metro State 7-6 (7-3) in the championship match.
Brown and Wolf also competed in doubles, going 1-1.
Air Force returns to action next weekend at the Wolf Pack Invite in Reno, Nev., which runs Sept. 16-18.
