Air Force drops match to New Mexico

USAFA, Colo.- A scoreless tie at halftime, two New Mexico goals over the final 45 minutes were too much to overcome to Air Force, as the Falcons fell 2-0 on Thursday.
"Tonight was a tough one for us," said head coach Laura Busby. "We had to deal with a ton of adversity and I'm proud of the total team effort, despite the result. This is the point in the season where we need to rely heavily on the strong team culture we have built."
The first-half saw Air Force create offensive moments, attempting eight shots over the game's initial 45 minutes. However, over the course of the evening, the Falcons managed to force just one shot on goal.
Andrea Mosher led Air Force with six shots, while Cassi Bych forced the lone save in her three attempts.
As New Mexico began to control possession in the second-half, the Lobos pressed their attack. After seeing no shots on goal in the first-half, Falcon keeper Sydney Davis was constantly asked to make plays. She sent back five of the seven shots on goal she saw in the second-half.
For the 10th time this season, Stella Rubidoux did not leave the pitch, as her 900 minutes leads all Air Force players.
"It's going to take all 30 players to reach our goal this season and I truly believe this team is capable of rising to overcome the challenges," said Busby. "We'll set our sights on Sunday and look to defend our home turf."
Next, the Falcons stay home to face San Diego State on Sunday, October 2. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm MT.
