Former Air Force golfer Kyle Westmoreland becomes the first former Falcon to earn a PGA Tour card, after a birdie on the final hole of the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, Sept. 4, in Newburgh, Ind. Westmoreland finished the Tour Championship at six-under-par, and claimed the 25th and final spot on the Korn Ferry Tour Finals Eligibility List. The 2022-23 PGA Tour season begins Thursday, Sept. 15 at the Fortinet Championship in Napa, California.
A 2014 Air Force Academy graduate, Westmoreland served on active duty for five years before turning his attention full time to professional golf. He became the first Academy graduate to qualify for, and make the cut, at a PGA Tour major championship as he competed in the 2021 U.S. Open Championship at Torrey Pines.
This season, Westmoreland recorded three top-10 finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour, placing seventh at the Wichita Open and the AdventHealth Championship and ninth at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship.
Westmoreland is one of the most decorated Air Force Academy golfers in school history. A native of Katy, Texas, he earned all-region honors as a senior and competed in the NCAA Regionals twice. As a senior, he placed fourth at the Mountain West Championships, the highest finish for an Air Force golfer since 1985, and was named the Academy's most valuable male athlete. At Air Force, he won four collegiate tournaments, including the 2013 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at the Academy. He ranks second in Academy
history in single-season and career scoring average.
