Fourteen Bouts Highlight Return to Academy

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force boxing team returned to the Academy this evening (Jan. 27) for a busy night of collegiate boxing that included a 14-bout card, with three contests serving as quarterfinal bouts for the upcoming Wing Open. Following their respective fights, junior Joe Wilson and sophomore Peyton Glenn shared the team's Boxer of the Week awards.
Wilson, one of six Wing Open quarterfinalists to step into the ring on Friday, easily advanced to the semifinals after forcing the referee to stop his 192-pound bout with Jake Cook before the final bell. Sophomore Brewster Mott and freshman Alessandro Rivero also advanced during the trio of quarterfinal bouts, as Mott decisioned freshman Conner Head at 191 pounds and Rivero earned the judges' vote in his 143-pound contest with classmate Roger Baeza.
On the regular Friday Night card, Glenn decisioned freshman Chinonye Mbanugo in a 148-pound bout to earn the coaches' weekly award. Fellow sophomore Billie Botes won her 154-pound contest with junior Morgan Roberts, while a pair of seniors also earned a victorious hand raise. Allyah Marlett decisioned sophomore Shelby Paul in a 167-pound bout, while Hannah Schuster followed with a victory over junior Katie Bush at 162 pounds. Two freshmen also picked up victories during the six women's bouts on Friday, as Alexandra Waller defeated classmate Skyler Tabeb at 125 pounds and Alejandra Tirado-Elias decisioned fellow freshman Emma Teo at 132 pounds.
Like Wilson in the quarterfinals, sophomore Mandaw Seck earned a referee-stopped victory, as he downed junior Keillan Laurenceau before the bell in their 175-pound bout. Seniors Tyler Dalzell (165 pounds) and Jordan Dutcher (148 pounds) earned victories over freshman Neo Takazawa and freshman Luke Phillips, respectively, while sophomore Andrew Lu decisioned freshman Duong Tran at 136 pounds and sophomore Luke Kohout defeated junior Nile Owens by decision in the 158-pound bout.
The Falcons head to Seattle this weekend (Feb. 3-4) for the WAC Main Event.
