
Former Falcon Tom Whitney earns PGA Tour Card

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Former Air Force golfer Tom Whitney, 2010 USAFA graduate, earned his first PGA Tour card. Whitney placed 21st on the Korn Ferry points list earned 924 points. The top 30 on the Korn Ferry points list automatically qualify for the PGA Tour.
Whitney is the second straight former Falcon to earn his card as Kyle Westmoreland, a 2014 USAFA graduate, earned his card for last season by finishing 25th in the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour Championship.
After fulfilling his military commitment, Whitney left active duty in 2014 to pursue a career in professional golf. He joined the Korn Ferry Tour in 2017 and has competed in 117 Korn Ferry tournaments, 34 more on the PGA Tour Latinoameria and three on the PGA Tour. He owns two international tournament wins (as of Oct. 9, 2023) and has 13 top 10 finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour.
This past season, Whitney posted six top-10 finishes, including a tie for second at the Club Car Championships at the Landings Golf and Athletic Club.
Whitney became the first former Falcon to play in a PGA Event, as he qualified for the PGA Tour's Shriners Hospital for Children Open, Nov. 2-5, 2017 at the TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas, Nev. He made his first PGA cut in his second event, tying for 67th at the Career Builders Challenge, Jan. 18-21, 2018 in La Quinta, Calif.
The native of La Quinta, Calif., was the Falcons' team MVP in 2010. A finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, he was a two-time all-Mountain West selection and two-time NCAA Regional qualifier. Whitney became the second two-time All-America Scholar for Air Force. He closed out his career holding numerous school records, including career stroke average, single-season stroke average, low 18-hole round, 36-hole and 54-hole score. He owns four collegiate career tournament wins and finished in the top three 10 times in his collegiate career.
