COLORADO SPRINGS- Air Force entered Thursday in need of three points to keep its hopes alive for a potential Mountain West Tournament berth. The Falcons were unable to find a goal in the second annual City for Champions Cup at Weidner Field, as the 0-0 draw with Colorado College effectively ends Air Force's 2023 campaign. However, as a result of the tie, Air Force will retain the Cup for the second-consecutive season.
"I think, more than anything, I'm proud of the fight that we showed," said head coach Laura Busby. "We've done that all season."
Understanding the position that the Falcons were in, Coach Busby's squad held a steady offensive attack for all 90 minutes. The Falcons heavily out-shot the Tigers 19-13 in total attempts, and 13-2 in shots on goal. The 13 saves were the most by a goalie in opposition to Air Force this season.
"Even though it didn't work out, their goalkeeper made some incredible saves, so credit to her," said Busby. "It looked like we were knocking on the door and we were trying to put the ball in the back of the net."
The Falcons end the season 6-9-3 overall and 3-5-3 in the Mountain West. Air Force players were responsible for 53 points in 2023 as compared to 39 points in 2022, Coach Busby's first season at the helm.
