Air Force took the pitch motivated to wrangle in their first win of the season, controlling the majority of first half possessions with six shots in the first 45 minutes while UNLV was only able to fire off one shot in the same amount of time.
The Falcons snapped a two-match scoring drought in the second half as senior team captain Federico Mion scored a goal (73') via touch from senior teammate Remi Smith. The strike marked Mion's first this season while Smith was credited with his second assist.
The Rebels struck back for an equalizer 10 minutes later (83') as Hermann Ragnarsson notched his second goal this season via an assist from Tyler Ware. The second-half possessions were controlled by the Rebels as they outshot the Falcons, 11-3, in the second 45 minutes. UNLV rolled the momentum into Lucas Gelebart's game-winning goal in the waning minutes of the match.
At the final horn, UNLV took 12 shots to AF's nine. In his first career start in goal, Air Force keeper Josh Spence recorded four saves. UNLV counterpart Hugo Lemos made one save on the day.
Next up, the Falcons hit the road for a pair of WAC road matches with Utah Valley and Utah Tech. The Falcons take on the Wolverines in Orem, Thursday (Oct. 12), and the Trailblazers in St. George on Sunday (Oct. 15). Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. MT and 1:30 p.m. MT, respectively.
