Air Force Falls to Wyoming on the Road

LARAMIE, Wyo. -- In a back-and-forth match that featured 30 ties, the Air Force volleyball team dropped a tough 3-1 decision to Wyoming this evening (Nov. 16) in Laramie. In the opening match of their final regular season road trip, the Falcons fell 13-25, 22-25, 25-23, 24-26 at the UniWyo Sports Complex.
Senior Aaryn Scires led the team with 13 kills on .417 hitting, while junior Ella Tschuor (12), classmate Mac Russ (11) and senior Joi Harvey (10) also contributed to double-digit kills. Freshman Annamaria Ramos led the team with two blocks, including a solo stop, while sophomore Jordan Suan tallied a match-high 22 digs and led the team with a pair of service aces. Senior Caroline Reinkensmeyer rounded out the Falcons' statistical leaders with 43 assists.
Air Force and Wyoming traded the first eight points of the contest, with Harvey (two), Tschuor, and Ramos tallying kills for the Falcons' four scores. The Cowgirls broke the back-and-forth scoring with six-straight points – part of a larger 15-3 run that put the Falcons in a 19-8 deficit. Scires added a score, but Wyoming closed the set on a 5-1 run to take the opening set by a 25-13 margin.
Harvey struck first in the second set and added another kill as the two teams went back-and-forth for the first six points. The Cowgirls scored three-straight to take a 5-3 lead and – despite kills from Russ and Tschuor, wouldn't let the Falcons get closer than one (4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8). A kill from Harvey broke up a 4-1 run by Wyoming, while Russ added another score to put the Falcons in double figures (10-14). Tschuor and Scires each recorded a pair of kills to help Air Force pull within one at the 20-21 mark, and a strike from Russ held the Cowgirls at set-point, but Wyoming earned the final score for the 25-22 win.
Wyoming took an early 3-1 lead, but Tschuor quickly tied it at three – putting down a kill and serving up a play that Reinkensmeyer put back for a kill. The teams traded the next six scores, before Harvey put down a kill to give Air Force a 7-6 advantage. A strike from Scires evened the set at eight, while Tschuor tied it at nine. The junior added another kill, while scores from Russ and Harvey led to another tie at 13. Scires accounted for two more ties (14-14, 15-15), while two more kills from Tschuor and a resounding kill from Russ led to an 18-all score. Wyoming took a three-point lead (18-21), but a Ramos/Russ block, an ace from Suan, and a Ramos kill tied the set at 21. Harvey put down a kill to give Air Force a 23-22 lead and teamed up with Ramos for the final two kills to secure the Falcons' 25-23 win.

The freshman put down another kill, while a Harvey/Reinkensmeyer block and Suan ace extended the advantage to five (19-14). Wyoming scored seven of the next eight points to take a 21-20 lead, before Harvey stopped the run with a kill. Scires tied the set at 22 and an ace from senior Savannah Neal gave Air Force a 23-22 lead, but the Cowgirls scored four of the final five points for the 26-24 comeback win.
The Falcons close out the regular season on Saturday (Nov. 18), when they travel to Fort Collins to face Colorado State at 6:00 p.m. MT) inside Moby Arena.
