COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Three members of the Air Force volleyball team were recognized by the Mountain West this morning (Nov. 22), as the conference office announced its all-conference and all-conference honorable mention selections for the 2023 season.
Senior middle blocker Joi Harvey became the first three-time all-conference selection for Air Force at the Division I level – and the first in any division since Christy Eiler in 1990-92 – as she made the all-MW team for the third time in four years (2020, 2021, 2023). The senior registered the second-highest hitting percentage in the Mountain West during league play this fall, as she hit .400 against her conference counterparts, with 210 kills on 403 swings and just 49 errors. Harvey, who recorded the Mountain West's second-highest single-match outing of the year with a .632 performance in the sweep of Nevada (13-1-19) on Sept. 30, led Air Force in kills during half of its 18 conference matches – including the program's first 20-kill performance in four years against Colorado State on Oct. 12. In addition to holding the No. 2 rank in hitting, the Goodyear, Ariz., native finished the 2023 season listed among the league's Top 10 in kills (3.13 kps) and points (3.72 pps), while averaging 0.87 blocks and 0.70 digs per set.
In addition, senior setter Caroline Reinkensmeyer and junior middle blocker Mac Russ earned all-MW honorable mention status – the first postseason nod for both Falcons – after receiving votes from at least three conference coaches.
Backed by a league-leading 61-assist performance against Colorado State, Reinkensmeyer was one of just three conference setters to average over 10 assists per set, as she finished the MW campaign with a team-leading 10.04 per-set mark. The senior, who produced double-doubles (assists/digs) during seven MW matches, became a six-rotation threat for Air Force during league play and finished the MW season ranked first on the team in service aces (0.33), second in digs (2.27), third in hitting (.252) and fourth in blocks (0.34). Headlined by the third-best single-match hitting performance in the Mountain West this season – a .591 outing that helped Air Force hand eventual MW champion Utah State its only conference loss of the year, Russ finished the season ranked sixth in the league in hitting with a .348 average, tallying 155 kills on 313 attempts with just 46 errors. The junior, who led the team in hitting during four conference contests, added 0.70 blocks per set (47 total), as she led the team in blocks during six MW matches.
The selection of Harvey, Reinkensmeyer and Russ are tied with a DII trio from 1994 as the most Falcons to be honored by their conference (any division) since 1991.
