U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force junior defenseman Sam Brennan was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week in helping lead the Falcons to a road split at Sacred Heart, Feb. 10-11.
In game one, Brennan had a career-high two goals. He scored his first goal of the season on the power play to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. His second of the game, also on the power play, was the game-winner with 4:59 left in the game. The game-winner was his first of the season and second of his career. The native of Brighton, Mich., also had the primary assist on the first goal of the game as the Falcons never trailed in the 5-4 victory. The three points for Brennan were a season high and the second most of his career.
In addition to his three points in the series, Brennan also blocked five shots, the most on the team in the series, and had seven shots on goal, the second most by a Falcon.
The weekly award was the second of Brennan's career and the eighth by a Falcon this season. Air Force is the only team in the league to have three different players (Brandon Koch x3, Sam Brennan, Luke Rowe) earn Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Falcons are also the only team to win Defensive Player of the Week five times this season.
