Falcons Fall 59-54 to Boise State

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – A standout evening on the defensive side for the Air Force women's basketball team was not enough to overcome Boise State, as the Falcons fell 59-54 Thursday evening at Clune Arena.
The Falcons (12-14, 7-7 MW) generated 23 points on 21 turnovers to Boise's five; Sophomore Jo Huntimer forced six steals on the evening tying a career-high; Senior Nikki McDonald followed up with three.
Senior Kamri Heath led the floor in scoring with 13 points; Sophomore Madison Smith added ten.
Air Force opened the night forcing eight points off four turnovers in the first five minutes of play. Through the back half of the quarter, the Falcons managed to hold Boise at length, but the Boise State (14-14, 9-6 MW) offense eventually settled in, going 4-4 down the final minutes to take first lead at 16-15 with 20 seconds remaining off a Tatum Thompson and-one opportunity.
In the second, Heath managed the Falcons' first two baskets, holding Air Force within one possession.
Starting at the 7:55 mark, a 10-0 Boise run that put the Broncos up 29-19 was put to rest by Heath's third basket of the quarter, before a Huntimer three-pointer out along the right wing at 1:44 cut the Broncos' lead back to six. Heath and Boise's Abby Muse traded baskets to close the half with the Broncos up 32-26.
Entering the second half, the Falcons opened with a 6-2 scoring advantage down the first four minutes behind a pair driving layups for Madison Smith and Heath's sixth made layup of the evening, cutting Boise's lead back to 34-32. A Huntimer basket at 3:39, shortly followed by a pair of made free-throws by Smith tied the game at 36-all, before a pair of rapid three-pointers from Boise inside of 32 seconds quickly had the Broncos back to a six-point lead as the fourth quarter approached.
Down 51-43 with four minutes remaining, a trio of key turnovers forced on consecutive possessions turns an 8-0 Air Force run, with the Falcons tying the game at 51-all with 1:38 remaining, but a three-pointer on the following Boise possession reclaimed the final Boise lead; as the remainder of regulation fell to free throws.
