Air Force can't contain #24 Texas Tech in 9-4 loss

LUBBOCK, Texas- The Falcons clubbed three home runs on Tuesday, but the long ball wasn't enough, as Air Force was bested 9-4 by #24 Texas Tech.

Matt Thompson had a banner day in the leadoff spot, going 3-5 with a home run and two RBI. The senior's home run put Air Force up 3-1 in the 2nd.

Thompson's three hits are a career single-game best.

Trayden Tamiya launched his first home run of the season in the 2nd, a solo shot to tie the game at 1-1. Tamiya finished the evening 2-4.

Chris Stallings connected on his second dinger of the spring, a solo shot in the 6th. Aerik Joe finished the night 2-4 with a pair of base-hits.

Kyle Moats opened the game, and was pulled after allowing a two-run home run in the 2nd. Jake Sansing entered with Air Force trailing 3-1 and eventually retired the first 10 batters he faced. In the 5th, however, Texas Tech's three hits led to three runs to put the home team up 6-3.

Even so, the Falcons created opportunities. Stallings' home run cut the lead to 6-4 in the 6th, and in the 7th, Air Force had a chance to sway the ballgame.

Back-to-back singles by Thompson and Joe put two runners on with nobody out. However, Air Force was unable to get them home, as a lineout and consecutive strikeouts ended the inning.

The Red Raiders added a run in the 7th and two more in the 8th, while the Falcons were retired in order in the 8th and 9th.

Next, Air Force resumes its brief midweek series against Top-25 Texas Tech at 1:00 pm MT on Wednesday, March 1.
