
Falcon Lacrosse Drops Season Opener at No. 11 Ohio State, 15-7

COLUMBUS – The 11th ranked Buckeyes outscored Air Force, 15-7, in the season opener at tOSU's newly christened lacrosse stadium, Saturday afternoon in Columbus. Six Falcons scored goals in the effort including a career first for a freshman Falcon.
Ohio State was first to crack the goose egg with a goal at 13:46. Air Force's leading scorer Brandon Dodd responded five minutes late with a goal via assist from sophomore Josh Yago in his first career collegiate appearance. The Buckeyes put up to more goals before the end of the first quarter to build a 3-1 lead.
The Buckeyes carried the momentum into the second quarter where the doubled-up Air Force, 4-2. AF goals were scored by Shad Bruce (7:48) in a man-up situation and by Yago for his first collegiate goal via feed from Wes Peene.
The Falcons got some traction after the half as they put up four third-quarter goals to tOSU's five. Peene brothers, Gavin and Wes, were good for a goal apiece. Freshman Luke Vrsansky got his name on the score sheet with an assist from sophomore teammate Kyle Griffith. Wes Peene scored his goal unassisted.
The fourth quarter was all Buckeyes as they added thee to their final tally.
Yago led the Falcons with three points and a team-high nine shots with five on goal, while Dodd took six with three on cage. Air Force put up 26 shots on the game to Ohio State's 36.
Defensively, Chris Bardak and Blake Boyd caused two turnovers apiece while James Chastain and Dodd picked up a team best three ground balls apiece.
The Falcons struggled at the center dot and in cage, winning just 4-of-26 face offs while making just seven saves for a .318 save percentage in cage.
Air Force won the turnover battle, losing the ball 10 times to tOSU's 17. The Buckeyes cleared a perfect 15-15 while Air Force cleared 16-19.
Next up, the Falcons open the Cadet Lacrosse Field against the University of Denver, Saturday (Feb. 11). Action is slated for a 1 p.m. start. No games will be played at Falcon stadium this season due to construction on the East side of the stadium.
