
Women’s Basketball Drops Home Contest to UNLV

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force women's basketball team found itself on the wrong end of a 98-57 defeat at the hands of UNLV on Saturday at Clune Arena.
The major difference in Saturday's outing proved to be the Lady Rebels' ability to attack the Falcon interior at will, scoring 60 points in the paint, posting an even 30 in both halves, keeping Air Force (12-12, 7-5 MW) at a distance throughout the game. UNLV (22-2, 12-0 MW) closed the day shooting 56 percent (39-70) from the field, while adding a 53-percent clip (8-15) from three-point range.
Sophomore Madison Smith led Air Force with 17 points on 6-13 shooting and 2-4 from distance; Taylor Britt followed up with nine, while freshman Milahnie Perry logged eight.
Sophomore Jo Huntimer, with three assists on the evening, totaling 108 for the season and 230 for her Falcon career, claims fifth in the program Division I assists record book, surpassing LaToya Howell (2001-03).
Smith led the opening quarter behind an eight-point outing which kept the early minutes of the game within five points or fewer. Heading into the second, UNLV outscored the Falcons 11-2, pushing the Lady Rebels' lead out to double-digits, where it would ultimately remain.
Through the second half, UNLV shot 61 percent from the field and 67 percent from three-point range, outscoring Air Force 52-24 on the way to Air Force's largest margin of defeat this season.
The Falcons travel to Laramie, Wyo. on Saturday, Feb. 11 for a rematch with the third-place Wyoming Cowgirls.
