Layne leads Falcons in final round in Bandon

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force senior Isaac Layne led the Air Force golf team in the final round of the Bandon Dunes Championship, Tuesday, March 14, in Bandon, Ore. Due to poor weather conditions on Monday, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes, with the final 18 being played on Tuesday.
Layne made five birdies on the day, including three in a row, to shoot an even par 72. Layne's 151 (+7) was tied for 40th overall. Sophomore Cameron Kahle shot 76 on day two and came in at 156 for the 36-hole tournament. Freshman Brooks Morrell shot 74 on the final day and shot 158 for the tournament. Freshman Ted Davenport shot 162 and freshman Alvaro Fonseca shot 170. Fonseca recovered from a rough start in round two to play his final nine holes in three-under par, including an eagle on the 363-yard par-4 16th. On his final hole of the day, Fonseca drove the green and made the putt for the team's only eagle of the tournament.
Oregon, ranked 28th in the nation, rallied in the final round to win the tournament with a 581 (+5). Oregon State and Utah tied for second at 588 and Boise State was fourth at 589. Fellow Mountain West opponents San Jose State and Fresno State finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Air Force was 18th with a 627. Air Force's second round score of 302 was 23 strokes better than its first round, the second best improvement of any team in the tournament.
Air Force returns to action April 1-2 at the Haskins Award Invitational in Augusta, Ga.
