THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team will battle Army and Navy in the inaugural Commander-in-Chief's Cup, Monday-Tuesday, April 17-18, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. Live stats will be available at www.golfstat.com.
THE FORMAT: Golfers will play 36 holes on the first day (April 17) with the final 18 on April 18 at the par-72, 7,425-yard Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. However, for the C-in-C Cup, teams will play eight players with the top six scores counting in each round.
HELLO AGAIN: Air Force, Army and Navy all competed in the 18-team Folds of Honor Tournament, Sept. 26-28, at the American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Mich. Air Force was the top service academy, finishing in 12th-place at 930. Navy was 13th at 931 and Army was 16th at 943.
HISTORY OF SERVICE ACADEMY GOLF: This is the inaugural year of the C-in-C Cup, but it's not the first tournament of its kind. Air Force, Army and Navy competed in the Service Academy Golf Classic from 1993 to 2012 (except for a two-year hiatus in 2007-08). Army won the first two tournaments and then Air Force won 16 consecutive tournaments, tying Army in the final event in 2012. The Classic, held in the Dallas area for its first 14 years, was moved to Andrews AFB, Md., for 2009 and 2010, before landing at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., in 2011 and Trump National in Colts Neck, N.J., for the 2012 tournament. The Falcons claimed 12 individual titles at the Service Academy Golf Classic, highlighted by an unprecedented four straight titles from Ben Leestma (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001). Other Air Force golfers to claim the SAGC individual title were Owen Shippler (1994), Trey Treadwell (1995), Matt Peterson (1997), Adam Wasinger (2002), Ben Jackman (2004 - co), Tom Whitney (2006) and Kyle Westmoreland (2011).

Layne, Kahle and Morrell have played in all 26 rounds this season. Park and Fonseca have both played in 23 rounds, missing just one tournament each.
