Air Force Thunders Past Detroit Mercy, 22-7

USAF ACADEMY – Air Force put up season high numbers in the 22-7 routing of Detroit Mercy in ASUN Conference action, Saturday afternoon at USAFA. The Falcons, now 8-5 overall, improve to 5-2 in league play.
Eleven Falcons put up a season-best 22 goals led by Brandon Dodd's six-goal performance. Dodd put up 10 points on the day, setting a personal career high points mark while equaling his career-best single game assists number (4). Mike Crampton (2014) is the only one other Falcon in program history that has put up 10 points or more in a single game.
Matt Rubino notched his first collegiate goal and finished with a hat trick on the day. Aidan Tolen was AF's third player to notch a hat trick in the game. Dodd and Tolen have 35 and 18 goals, respectively.
Alongside Rubino, Mitchell Gruenewald and Cole Rassas recorded their first NCAA goals. Wes and Gavin Peene were good for two goals apiece and now combine for 25 goals this season. Freshman Luke Vrsansky put up a pair of goals for his third and fourth this season. Other Falcons to score were Josh Yago and Hunter Panzik for their 14th and fourth goals of the season, respectively.
The Air Force defense was in stellar form, holding UDM to just four goals in the first half and a scoreless third quarter. AF caused 10 of Detroit Mercy's 18 turnovers— Dodd and Tommy Hellman led the team with two CTOs apiece. Jason Rose was impressive in goal, making eight saves in 45 minutes of action.
For the first time this season, AF checked three goalies into the game. Quinn Richards made two saves with no goals allowed in just under 10 minutes of play. In his collegiate debut, Nolan Parlette clocked 5:45 in the AF cage.
The Falcons nearly split the face off dot with 16 wins in 33 attempts. Daniel Haimes had a career showing with 11 wins in 20 attempts, picking up a game-best seven ground balls.
When the dust settled, the Falcons took a season high 58 shots, picked up 37 ground balls to the Titans' 21 and cleared the ball 20-21.
Next up, Air Force travels to Florida to take on a hot Jacksonville squad, April 22. Action is slated for 3 p.m. ET at Rock Stadium. JU is currently 14/16 in the media and USILA national rankings. The Falcons are 7-4 all-time against the Dolphins but have lost in the last two meetings.
