Gerrit Tamminga Leads Falcons at Doug Max Invitational

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Air Force junior Gerrit Tamminga had a stellar day in the throwing circle on Saturday, April 29, as he led the track and field team at the Doug Max Invitational. Battling windy conditions in Fort Collins, the junior used a pair of Air Force Top 10 throws to earn runner-up finishes.

No. 7 – Gerrit Tamminga, Hammer Throw (198'1")
No. 8 – Gerrit Tamminga, Discus Throw (178'1")

Tamminga opened the day with a six-foot personal improvement in the hammer throw (198'1") to finish second in the meet and debut at No. 7 on the program's all-time standings. He added a second runner-up finish – and Air Force Top 10 mark – in the discus throw, as he bettered his career distance by 10 feet (178'1") to finish second in the 12-thrower event and move into No. 8 on the all-time list. Tamminga closed out the day with his first shot put competition of the season – a career-best 53'6¼" performance that saw him finish fifth in the meet and debut at No. 20 in the Academy Record Book.

The junior led Air Force's throwers to a strong day at Jack Christiansen Track. Senior Jace Pittman finished right behind Tamminga in the hammer throw, posting a personal improvement of nearly nine feet (190'8") to place third in the meet and move into the Top 15 of the program's all-time standings (15th), while freshman Texas Tanner helped Air Force to three of the top-five spots in that event with a fifth-place throw of 164'7". The hammer was one of two top-five placements for Tanner, who also captured that finish in the discus throw with a toss of 162'9".

Junior Caiden Macktinger captured first-place honors in the pole vault, as he recorded a clearance of 16'5½" to win the seven-vaulter event. Backed by Macktinger's win, Air Force accounted for two of the top-three finishes in the pole vault, as sophomore Robert Postell cleared 15'5¾" to place third.

Junior Philip Hundl earned runner-up honors in the 110-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 14.24, while classmate Brian Hubbard earned a top-five finish in the 100-meter dash (fifth, wind-aided 10.76) and freshman Dylan Evans added a fourth-place, wind-aided distance of 22'3¾" in the long jump.

On the women's side, junior Kasarah Hernandez moved into No. 21 on the program's all-time pole vault standings following a career-best clearance of 11'7", while sophomore Nadja Wilson and junior Amanda Fraga picked up top-five finishes in the javelin throw (third, 116'3") and 200-meter dash (fifth, 26.74), respectively.

The Falcons return to the Academy next Friday (May 5) to close out the regular season hosting the Air Force Twilight Open at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
