
Air Force Comes up Short at Bellarmine, 11-10

LOUISVILLE – The Falcons were a goal shy of a comeback at Bellarmine, dropping the ASUN contest to the Knights, 11-10. Air Force is 7-5 on the season with a 4-2 mark in the league. Bellarmine, snapping a nine-game losing streak to AF, improved to 8-3, 3-2 ASUN.
Air Force's scoring effort was led by Ethan Grandolfo who put up four goals on a season-high 12 shots. Grandolfo has scored four goals for three consecutive games and has seven hat tricks this season. The senior attack man picked up three ground balls and was also credited with an assist to bring his season points total to 35.
Senior midfielder Gavin Peene put up two goals on two shots while younger brother Wes Peene added a goal and assist to the final tally. Brandon Dodd, the Falcons leading scorer tacked on a goal and two assists. Dodd has scored a goal in every appearance this season and leads AF with 49 points.
Shad Bruce, returning from injury, made his presence known with a goal and assist. Aidan Tolen rounded out the scoring effort for the Falcons with one strike early in the game.
Jake Knapp continued to show promise at the center dot going 11-22 on the game, marking his second-straight positive result at the face off X. Knapp picked up a game-high six ground balls. The Falcon defense caused four of Bellarmine's 13 turnovers—Chris Bardak led the effort with a pair of caused turnovers to his credit. In goal, Jason Rose made 14 saves in 60 minutes of action.
The Falcons took more shots (44-38), scooped up 24 ground balls to the Knights' 19, and was perfect on clearing the ball (21-21).
Next up, Air Force returns to the Academy to host Detroit Mercy in ASUN action, April 15. Action at the Falcon Lacrosse Practice field is slated for noon MT. The Falcons are undefeated against the Titans in the seven-game series.
