Falcons Impact Top 10 at APU Last Chance

AZUSA, Calif. – Junior Alex Patton and sophomore Jason Renze impacted the Air Force Top 10 this weekend (May 12-13) in Azusa, Calif., as a small contingent of middle distance and distance runners represented the Falcons' track team at the APU Franson Last Chance Meet at Cougar Stadium.
AIR FORCE TOP-10 MARKS
No. 6 – Alex Patton, 800-Meter Run (1:49.30)
No. 8 – Jason Renze, 3000-Meter Steeplechase (8:53.66)
Patton got the weekend started for the Falcons in their first event on Friday night, as he raced to an 800-meter time of 1:49.30 – the sixth-fastest mark in Academy history – and finished seventh in the 87-runner competition. Renze followed that up on Saturday by clocking the eighth-fastest steeplechase in Air Force history (8:53.66 – a personal improvement of nearly three seconds) to claimed runner-up honors in the 31-runner race. The sophomore, who only started competing consistently in the steeplechase this year, was one of two top-10 finishers for Air Force in that event, as senior Aidan Boyle recorded a time of 8:53.55 to finish eighth.
In between the top 10 marks from Patton and Renze, the Falcons tallied a pair of top-25 times in the 5000-meter run. Freshman Max Sannes debuted at No. 18 on the program's all-time standings with a career-best time of 13:59.23, while junior Ryan Child entered the rankings at No. 21 following a 14:02.43 finish. The pair, who placed sixth and eighth, respectively – with Sannes taking second in the collegiate field, were two of four Falcons to earn top-20 placements in the 109-runner event, as the senior duo of Niko Fraser and Ethan Marshall finished 15th (14:22.62) and 20th (14:26.13), respectively.
The Falcons return to action on May 24-27, when select athletes head return to California (Sacramento) for the opening round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. A list of qualifiers to the West Preliminary will be available next week.
