Air Force announces 2023-24 hockey schedule
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force hockey team will open the 2023-24 season with four straight home games as part of 17 games at Cadet Ice Arena this season.
Air Force opens the season at home against Lindenwood (Oct. 7-8), the first time the Lions have visited the Academy. The teams split a two-game series in St. Louis, Mo., last season.
The next week, the Falcons host Michigan State, Thursday-Friday, Oct. 12-13. Michigan State was 18-18-2 last season and placed fifth in the Big 10, narrowly missing an NCAA berth. The Falcons and Spartans last played early in the 2021-22 season as the teams split a series in East Lansing.
Air Force will hit the road for the first time with a two-game series at Alaska Anchorage, Oct. 20-21. The Falcons swept the Seawolves last season at Cadet Ice Arena.
The battle for the Pikes Peak Trophy will continue on Friday, Oct. 27, as the Falcons host Colorado College at the Cadet Ice Arena. This will be the only meeting between the Falcons and Tigers in 2023-24. Air Force will then travel to Denver to face the DU Pioneers on Saturday, Oct. 28.
Atlantic Hockey play beings on the road with a two-game series at Niagara, Nov. 3-4. Air Force will then host Army West Point at Cadet Ice Arena, Nov. 10-11. After four straight road games, the Falcons conclude the first half of the schedule with a home series against Bentley, Dec. 1-2.
The second half of the season begins when the Falcons compete in the Kwik Trip Holiday Faceoff, Dec. 28-29, in Milwaukee, Wisc. Air Force will join Minnesota-Duluth, Northeastern and Wisconsin in the tournament. In the second half of the season, the Falcons will host conference rivals AIC (Jan. 12-13), Canisius (Jan. 26-27), Sacred Heart (Feb. 9-10) and Robert Morris (Feb. 23-24).
All 11 Atlantic Hockey teams will make the playoffs this season. In the opening round, the top five teams will get a bye while the No. 6, No. 7 and No. 8 seeds will host a single game against No. 11, No. 10 and No. 9 on Saturday, March 2. The AHA quarterfinals (March 8-10) and the semifinals (March 15-17) will all be best-of-three series at the site of the higher-seeded team. The AHA championship game will be a single game on Saturday, March 23, at the site of the highest remaining seed.
