COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After helping Air Force Volleyball to a perfect 3-0 weekend and the tournament title at the Santa Clara Mission Classic, sophomore libero Jordan Suan was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week this morning (Sept. 11), as the conference office announced its weekly award winners.
The Gilbert, Ariz., native averaged 4.54 digs per set to help the Falcons to victories over CSU Bakersfield, Santa Clara and Saint Mary's at the SCMC in Santa Clara on Sept. 8-9. A member of the all-tournament team, Suan recorded a career-high 25 digs during Air Force's victory over previous one-loss Santa Clara – a tally that came one match after posting a (then) career-best 22 digs during the Falcons' come-from-behind win over CSU Bakersfield.
Suan's strong passing allowed Air Force to hit .243 for the weekend, while her defensive presence helped hold the Falcons' opponents (including the top-two teams in the West Coast Conference) to just .128 hitting – an average that kept Air Force on top of the MW in terms of opponent hitting for the year (.130). The sophomore also recorded a .924 reception average, while adding 12 assists and a service ace.
The sophomore is the fifth Falcon to earn MW Defensive Player of the Week honors since the award began in 2017 – and the program's first libero to capture the distinction. Suan and her teammates close out the non-conference portion of the season this weekend with road matches at Milwaukee and Marquette.
