THE SERIES
San Jose State is one of Air Force's longest running series with 44 meetings between the teams. The Spartans lead the all-time series, 24-14-6. Air Force won two of the last three meetings— the 2020-21 WAC Tournament, 2-0, and the 2022 regular season meeting at USAFA, 2-0. The teams tied at one last season at the Academy.
Air Force will be taking on Seattle U in the 18th all-time meeting between the programs. The Redhawks lead the all-time series, 9-6-2. Air Force has lost the last five meetings against SU and is 1-4-2 when playing the Redhawks in Seattle. The last seven meetings between the teams have been decided by one-goal margins.
UP NEXT
The Falcons return to the Academy to host UNLV in a Sunday afternoon matchup at Cadet Soccer Stadium. Action on October 8 is scheduled for 3 p.m. MT.
LAST WEEK
The Falcons earned their first positive result of the season, playing San Francisco to a draw, 2-2, at the Academy. Carter Rizzo and Remi Smith scored the AF goals.
AIR FORCE SCORERS
Luke Hill and Remi Smith lead the squad with three goals apiece. Smith is 2-2 in PKs while Hill scored one at the penalty line. Hill has 22 shots to his credit this season, 10 on goal. Smith has taken eight shots on target in 13 total attempts. Carter Rizzo and Aidan Grubbs scored their first career goals to round out AF's eight goals on the 2023 campaign.
NO BIG DEAL
Air Force is off to a bumpy start in 2023; however, in 2021 the Falcons got off to an 0-3 start and ultimately battled to a WAC tournament berth. Last season (2022), the Falcons were winless in their first six matches but turned it around with seven-straight wins and another WAC tournament berth. The last time Air Force was winless after nine matches was in 2013.
