
Air Force travels to Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational, Oct. 2-3

THIS WEEK: Air Force will compete in the 13th annual Mark Simpson Invitational, hosted by the University of Colorado, Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 2-3, in Erie, Colo. Live scoring will be available on www.Golfstat.com.
THE FORMAT: Teams will play 36 continuous holes on Monday, Oct. 2, in a shotgun format starting at 8:15 am MT. The final 18 holes (Tuesday, Oct. 3) will begin with a staggered shotgun start at 7:55 am MT, with tee times for the top four teams off of No. 1 from 7:55 to 8:35 am. The low four individual scores will determine the team scores for each round.
THE FIELD: Along with Air Force, the 17-team field includes Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Grand Canyon, Mercer, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Rice, San Francisco, UT-Arlington, Utah Valley, UTEP, Valparaiso, Washington State and Wyoming. Colorado State and Rice received votes in the GCAA's Bushnell/Golfweek preseason coaches' poll.
THE LINEUP: The Falcon lineup this week will be: 1-Cameron Kahle; 2-Eli Huntington; 3-Alvaro Fonseca; 4-Carson Baker; 5-Aaron Kuznik; Ind-Chris Park and Grant Samuelson.
ABOUT THE COURSE: The 54-hole tournament will be played at the par 72, 7,567-yard
Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo. A seven-time winner of the "Best Golf Course on the Front Range,", the CNGC has hosted previous U.S. Amateur qualifiers, Colorado PGA Section championships, the 2011 NCAA Colorado Men's Regional and the 2012 NCAA Women's West Regional.
AIR FORCE AT THE MARK SIMPSON INVITATIONAL: Air Force last played in the Mark Simpson in 2021 and shot a 54-hole team score of 913 at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie, Colo. Three current Falcons played in the tournament as current senior Aaron Kuznik shot 227, followed by Cameron Kahle (235) and Christopher Park (236). Air Force's best finish ever in the Mark Simpson came in 2017 when the Falcons tied their best-ever finish at the event. The Falcons' 861 (-3) team score and sixth-place finish tied as its best ever in the CU Invitational. Bryant Falconello shot the team's best ever round at the course with a three-round total of 207, nine-under par. Falconello placed fourth among 107 individuals.
LAST TIME OUT: Air Force's last competition was in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, Sept. 10-12, at the Academy's Eisenhower Blue Golf Course. CSU won the team title for the second straight year with a score of 851 (-13). Wyoming was second at 862 with UC Davis and Valparaiso tying for third at 864 (even). Air Force placed 23rd at 904. Sophomore Alvaro Fonseca was the top Falcon over the 54-hole tournament with a 220. Kahle shot 224, followed by freshman Eli Huntington (231), senior Aaron Kuznik (232) and senior Max Heupel (234). In the individual event on the Silver Course, freshman Alex Lynch was the top Falcon with a 213 (-3) shooting 69-75-69. Sophomore Ted Davenport shot 214, followed by Eric Liveringhouse (218), Chris Park (220), Carson Baker (222), Brooks Morrell (222), Grant Samuelson (230) and Jake Myre (232).
