Central Arkansas Edges by Air Force, 2-1

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force came up short of an equalizer, falling to Central Arkansas, 2-1, Friday evening at Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Bears earned their first win of the season, improving to 1-3-1, while the Falcons remain winless at 0-5.

Central Arkansas was the first to strike in the 23rd minute as freshman Pietro Fontana found the back of the net in the unassisted attack. The Bears were the only ones to score in the first 45.

Air Force was jolted to life with a goal from freshman Aidan Grubbs in the 49^th minute. Junior Carter Rizzo fired a shot into the woodwork which deflected to Grubbs in good position for the finish.

With the score knotted, both teams continued to push the pace and intensity. The Falcons were the aggressors for much of the match, outshooting the Bears, 13-5 (5-3). Unfortunately for the Falcons, it was the Bears' Fontana who struck again via touches from Devonte Richards and Joey Gutierrez in the 87^th minute.

With less than two minutes to go, the Falcons were unable to notch an equalizer before the clock expired.

Luke and Greg Hill led the AF offense with three shots apiece—two of Greg's shots were on goal. Remi Smith and Wills Burns also attempted a shot apiece on goal.

Falcon keeper Jakob Stone recorded a save in the defensive effort while counterpart Connor Wachtel logged four saves in his first win this season.

Next up, the Falcons return to Cadet Soccer Stadium to host UC San Diego, Sunday afternoon (Sept. 10). Action is slated for 1 p.m. MT.
