Air Force Drops MW-Opener To Utah State

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (7-6, 0-1 MW) fell to Utah State (13-1, 1-0 MW), 88-60, in the Mountain West-opener for both teams Tuesday afternoon at Clune Arena. Sophomore forward Rytis Petraitis led the Falcon with 15 points.
Utah State shot 63 percent from the field and was dominant inside with 52 points in the paint. Forward Great Osobor led the Aggies with 31 points and eight rebounds. Mason Falslev added 18 and Ian Martinez 17 points.
Petraitis paced four Falcons in double figures scoring with his 15. Ethan Taylor and Jeffrey Mills scored 12 points each and Kellan Boylan added 11.
Utah State jumped out to a 42-29 lead at halftime. The Aggies shot 60 percent from the field in the opening half, while holding the Falcons to 38 percent from the field. Utah State led 41-21 before the Falcons closed on an 8-0 run to pull to within 13 at the half.
Air Force got to within 10 points in the second half, but a 15-2 run by Utah State put the game out of reach. The Aggies shot 67 percent from the field in the second half.
The Falcons had a season-high 11 players play in the game, including four freshmen. Freshman Caleb Walker made his collegiate debut for the Falcons in reserve.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 9, at Nevada. The game tips at 7 pm PT.
