Air Force Falls To (RV/RV) New Mexico

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force men's basketball (7-9, 0-4 MW) fell to (RV/RV) New Mexico (15-3, 3-2 MW), 85-66, in Mountain West play Saturday afternoon at Clune Arena. Junior Beau Becker led Air Force with 23 points.
New Mexico scored 54 points in the paint and Air Force committed 18 turnovers, which led to 26 points for the Lobos.
Air Force led early at 12-9 seven minutes into the game. New Mexico took control of the game with a 13-0 run to go ahead 22-12 at the 10:22 mark. The Lobos forced 11 turnovers and scored 16 points off turnovers and went to halftime leading 44-24.
The Falcons played better in the second half, out-scoring the Lobos 42-41. Unfortunately, Air Force was only able to get to within 13 points of the Lobos in the second half. After shooting 35 percent from the field in the opening half, the Falcons shot 59 percent from the field in the second half.
JT Toppin led five New Mexico players in doubles figures scoring with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Jamal Mashburn Jr. added 13 points. Mustapha Amzil and Tru Washington scored 11 points each.
Becker was 10 of 18 shooting from the field and tied a career-high with six assists. Sophomore Rytis Petraitis scored 18 points and four rebounds. Junior Jeffrey Mills added eight points, a career-high nine rebounds and three steals. Sophomore Kellan Boylan added nine points and four rebounds.
Air Force returns to action Tuesday, Jan. 23, at UNLV. The game is a late-nighter with a tip time of 8 pm PT.
