Air Force Closes Out Road Swing with 3-0 Loss at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – The Air Force volleyball team closed out a three-match road swing with a straight-set loss to Utah State this afternoon (Oct. 12) in Logan, as it fell 18-25, 15-25, 19-25 ro the host Aggies at the Wayne Estes Center.

Senior Ella Tschuor led the Falcons with 10 kills on .240 hitting, while freshman Mia Loyd accounted for 16 assists. Junior Ashely Bible, classmate Jordan Suan and freshman Grace Fiaseu each contributed a service ace to the Falcons' scoring line, while Suan added a team-high 12 digs and Fiaseu paced the team with six blocks (all assisted).

Air Force kicked off the action, as Fiaseu and Tschuor teamed up for a block for the first point of the day. Sophomore Annamaria Ramos and Bible added scores, but Utah State used a 5-1 run to send Air Force into an early timeout, trailing 4-8. The Aggies added three more scores, before Bible stopped the run with a kill (5-11). Fiaseu and Tschuor teamed up for another stop to help put the Falcons in double figures (10-19), but Utah State extended its advantage to 11 at the 23-12 mark.  Back-to-back kills from Tschuor sparked a 6-0 run by the Falcons that included an ace from Suan, a kill from junior Greta Hans, a third strike from Tschuor, and a another Fiasue block (with senior Mekayla Dedo) to cut the deficit to 18-23. Dedo and Fiaseu teamed up for one more block, but the Aggies took the opening set by a 25-19 margin.

Utah State jumped out to a fast 4-1 start in the second, but Air Force quickly pulled within one (4-5) following a block from junior Alex Hatchett and freshman Alysa Walker, as well as a service ace from bible. The teams traded the next several points, with Air Force earning scores from Tschuor (kills at 6-7. 7-8) and Hatchett (kill at 8-9). A pair of scores from Bible, as well as a block from Fiaseu and Walker tied the set at 12, but the Aggies scored the nest seven points to open the set by a 19-12 margin. Fiaseu teamed up with Loyd for a block and served up an ace, but the Aggies finished the set with a 25-15 win.

The Aggies pushed their lead to three (15-18), before Ramos and Hatchett teamed up for a block. The sophomore and Tschuor each added another kill, but Utah State completed the sweep with a 25-19 win.
