Air Force Downs Stony Brook in Overtime Thriller

USAF ACADEMY – Aidan Tolen's game-winning goal pushed Air Force past Stony Brook in overtime, 12-11, Saturday afternoon at Falcon Stadium. The Falcons, now 1-3 this season, snap a four-game losing streak to the Sea Wolves and chalk up a win against them for the first time since 1998.
Air Force took 38 shots in the game, a season-high mark for the Falcons. Caelan Driggs, who finished with two goals and an assist, finished with a game-high and career-high 10 shots. Tolen finished with two goals on five shots— he leads the Falcons with 56 career goals.
Three freshmen accounted for five goals behind Turner Ashby (2g, 2a), Mana Wilhelm (2g) and Jake Mason (1g). Wilhelm and Mason's goals marked their first collegiate scores while Ashby has three goals this season.
Eight Falcons put up goals, Luke Vrsansky, Chris Bardak, and Cole Rassas rounded out the scoring effort for AF. Junior attack man Josh Yago had a stellar day facilitating goals, assisting in three scores for a season-high mark.
Junior face-off specialist Jake Knapp played a crucial role in the victory, winning a career-high 16 face offs in 26 attempts. Knapp also scooped up a career-high 10 ground balls. Air Force won the ground ball battle decisively, 33-20.
Defensively, the Falcons caused six of SBU's 12 turnovers. Senior co-team captain James Chastain led the effort with two CTOs while teammates Daniel Enoch and Chris Bardak fought for four ground balls each. Quinn Richards played the first 42 minutes in goal and made nine saves. Nolan Parlette took the reins with 22 minutes remaining and made six saves while allowing just one goal in his first win as a keeper.
The Sea Wolves were led by Tewaaraton watch lister Dyan Pallonetti who had four goals on the day. Nick Dupuis has a game-high five points on two goals and three assists.
Next up, Air Force hits the road to take on Saint Joseph's on Sunday, March 3, at Sean Sweeney Field in Philadelphia. Action is slated for noon ET. The game will mark the first-ever meeting between the teams.
