GAME 02: AIR FORCE (0-1) at #7 DENVER (1-0)
12 p.m. MT, Saturday, February 10
Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium | Denver, Colo.
The Falcons travel North to take on in-state rival No. 7 University of Denver. Pioneer coaching veteran Matt Brown has taken the reigns from legendary coach Bill Tierney. Brown has been with the Denver staff since 2007 and will lead the Pios to Peter Barton fresh off an upset win over No. 5 Johns Hopkins.
THE SERIES
Air Force is 3-24 in the all-time series against the Pioneers. Denver won 15-straight in the series before Air Force knocked off the Pioneers at USAFA last February. Denver is 13-1 at home against the Falcons, with the lone loss coming in the final Great Western Lacrosse League in 2009.
LAST TIME THEY PLAYED
The Falcons grinded to a 12-10 upset win against the No. 18 Pioneers in the 2023 USAFA home opener. The win marked the first time AF has beat Denver since 2009, delivering head coach Bill Tierney his first-ever loss to the Falcons. Air Force seniors led the team to victory as co-team captain Brandon Dodd put up an impressive five goals and one assist while senior teammate Jason Rose made 17 saves (63%). Air Force returns four scorers from last season's meeting in Caelan Driggs, Josh Yago, Aidan Tolen, and Hunter Panzik.
LAST WEEKEND
Air Force fell to Marquette, 12-6, in the 2024 season opener in the Academy's Holaday Athletic Center. Five Falcons accounted for six AF goals, led by sophomore Caelan Driggs' two goals on three shots— assisted by senior team captain Chris Bardak and Cole Rassas.
COMING UP
Air Force welcomes Ohio State to the Academy for a noon meeting on February 17. The Falcons are aiming to make good on last season's 15-7 loss to the Buckeyes in Columbus. The meeting will mark Ohio State's first trip to USAFA since 2013.
